About Ziqian Liu
Chinese visual artist Ziqian Liu has captivated audiences with her ethereal self-portrait photography, all crafted solo using only a camera and tripod. Her work has been exhibited internationally at prestigious art shows and featured in media outlets such as World Photography, China Daily, ELLE China, and VOGUE Portugal.
For Liu, a mirror is both her brush and her dialogue with the world. Through the quiet symbiosis of body and nature, her compositions echo the subtlety and understated beauty of Eastern aesthetics, where emptiness speaks volumes. With her lens as a vessel, she invites us to explore the boundless inner universe of femininity.
Interview with Ziqian Liu
What challenges have you faced as a female artist?
In pursuit of clean, minimalist imagery, my work sometimes includes partial body exposure, which occasionally attracts inappropriate comments, asking if I can show more of my skin. While initially irritated by these comments, I've come to realise that what people see in photographs reflects their own mindset. As time goes by, I've learned to disregard those crude remarks.
What's your perspective on self-love?
I used to be extremely critical of my physical appearance, always striving for perfection. Now, I've found peace in accepting myself as I am. For example, with age come natural changes like fine lines and subtle shifts in form—I've learned to accept these imperfections as part of life's natural progression.
How would you describe Cafuné's style, and how would you describe Cafuné Women?
At first glance, Cafuné struck me as composed, but I've come to recognise it as a brand that beautifully balances rationality with elegance. Cafuné women are confident, independent, and uncompromising —qualities I relate to deeply.
Both Cafuné and I stay true to our visions without compromising for external validation. While Cafuné creates products and culture, I create art, both fostering a sense of quiet confidence that encourages staying true to one's path.
